Vlad Dracula's Return from the War with the Turks (1994)

In high school, my Anatomy teacher asked if I would do an ink drawing for her on a commission basis before she moved back to Arkansas. She gave me complete freedom to do anything I wanted. I had just finished a report on the legend of Vlad Dracula. I loved the imagery of the 90's movie Dracula and was inspired to do a piece involving that whole storyline.

Impala (1994)

The man who commissioned this piece from me was involved in the restoration of cars. He owned an Impala, which, ironically, my Dad knew the exact color of the paint of this car. I got a can of this type of paint and found that it was too thick to airbrush with, so I was forced to hand paint the image. It was a very challenging project because I rendered few mechanical objects. In the end, however, I surprised myself.

I was still on my vampire kick when I completed this piece in a variety of grades of graphite and white Prismacolor pencil. I absolutely loved the shades of gray it produced. I had a friend who admired the piece and gave it a good home. It turned out to be one of the few pieces that I have given as a gift.
